Private Foundations - Rules of Behavior is the fourth in our six-part Fundamentals Series on public charities and private foundations. The series will provide a basic overview geared toward new attorneys and attorneys new to the practice area on forming, operating and dissolving a tax-exempt organization in Massachusetts. The Private Foundations - Rules of Behavior program will describe the essential differences between private foundations and public charities and why these distinctions matter from a tax and donor perspective. The Divorce Fundamentals Training Series is designed to provide new lawyers or attorneys new to the practice of family law with an overview of the “life of a divorce case.” This training series will cover topics such as the divorce client interview; filing the divorce complaint; child support and alimony; custody and parenting plans; discovery; motion practice; separation agreements and post-judgment issues. As of July 26, 2022, Massachusetts joined 17 other states in codifying the prohibition of discrimination against employees, students and other individuals with natural hair and protective hairstyles through the CROWN Act. Join a candid conversation about the origins and motivations for passing this legislation and how it could impact civil rights and employment litigation. Nick Horan, Assistant Dean of the Academic Success Program and Associate Teaching Professor at Northeastern University School of Law will provide tips and tricks on studying for both the MBE and MPT as well as the best ways to prepare for the exam itself. Join the Boston Bar Association and Greater Boston Legal Services in learning the skills needed to volunteer at the virtual CORI Sealing Clinic. This project was launched in partnership with GBLS to serve our low-income communities in Boston. As CORI records can present a significant barrier to housing, employment, and educational opportunities, assisting clients with sealing is an important way that volunteers can make a difference in someone’s life. This program will provide an overview of the cryptocurrency shakeup of 2022 and a practical introduction to digital assets, including cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Key considerations that charities and their advisors must be aware of when venturing into this new asset class will be discussed. Sharon C. Lincoln, an expert on tax and charitable organization matters, will highlight the tax implications that come with holding digital assets and the governance issues charities must address when deciding to accept such assets.
